Be it certain features, a specific brand, or a certain look, everyone has something they’re looking for in a product. This is true even with power tools. So if you’re struggling to figure out the best battery powered drill, we’ve got your back with a list of some of the best cordless drills.
Black & Decker LDX 120C
Black & Decker is a familiar household company that we’ve all bought things from. The familiarity of this brand is largely due to the variety of different products they make, but also because of how well they make their products. The LDX 120C is another one of their great products, with several features and advantages that actually put it ahead of its competition. Here are a few of its key features:
- Lithium Ion 20-volt battery
- 11 Position clutch
- Small and Lightweight
Having a drill with a reliable battery is extremely important as you don’t want it dying on you at the most inopportune moments. The 20-volt lithium ion battery in this drill is light, holds a significant charge and doesn’t have memory. That means when you forget it on the charger overnight, you don’t over charge and damage the battery. Its 11 position clutch allows you to hone your focus in multiple different ways, making drilling into different materials much easier. On top of that its compact, lightweight design makes it even easier to use, never feeling like a chore.
One issue with this drill is its lack of power, due to its small size. However, unless you’re bringing it onto a construction site, this shouldn’t be a problem. Its small and compact size may make it a little weaker, but it’s still strong enough to get the job done and light enough that it doesn’t even feel like a job.
DeWalt is one of the best known brands in terms of power tools. They make good quality tools which are known to have a considerable amount of power and be built to last. The DC970K cordless drill is no exception as it has many of the great features you’d probably expect from a DeWalt. Here’s a few of those great features:
- ½ inch single sleeve keyless ratcheting chuck
- Goes up to 1,500 rpm
- Comes with a contractor bag
The ½ inch keyless chuck holds bits like its life depended on it. Keeping the little guys firmly fastened while you drill away. As we’ve become accustomed to with DeWalt, this drill has a significant amount of power, going up to 1,500 rpm. Not that you’ll always need to, but it’s nice to have the power when you need it. It also comes with a storage bag that can be incredibly handy if you’re planning on transporting it often.
While this is certainly a great product, it’s also a little bit expensive. However, when you’re looking for quality you’ve got to be willing to spend a bit extra and it’s nice to have that option here. If you’re looking for something a little more expensive but with a lot more power, this may be the drill for you.
DeWalt DCD771C2 20V
Of course if any company was going to make it onto a top power tool list, DeWalt would be that company. The DCD771C2 deserves a rightful place on this list as it’s an extremely powerful drill that also comes in a small, lightweight and versatile package. Here are its key features:
- High Performance Motor
The best selling point of this drill is how easy it is to use. You’ll never struggle to get the job done with this compact, lightweight and easy to use tool. You may also be happy to know it has an ergonomic handle, making it even easier to use. Not to mention, if you’re planning on using it for extended periods of time, this ergonomic handle really comes in handy. With its high performance motor, putting out 300UWO, you’ll also always have the amount of power needed to drill through just about anything.
The battery packs on this drill don’t tend to last long however, but it does come with two of them. This means that you’ll have to make sure that one pack is always on the charger while the other is in use. In the end you’ll pretty much always have a fully charged pack in it, and that actually improves the performance.
Porter-Cable is a rather well-known brand of power tools that offers quality at a reasonable price. With many of their basic tools going for under $100, there’s a good reason why Porter-Cable is such a popular brand. You won’t be disappointed in the cost-effectiveness of a Porter-Cable power tool, and the PCC606LA lives up to the Porter-Cable name. A few of its most distinct features are:
- Integrated LED
- Battery Gauge
- High-Performance Motor
You’ll never be in the dark with this drill, as it sports an integrated LED light for drilling in darker places. Another thing that keeps you out of the dark is the battery gauge, which makes it so that you never need to wonder how much battery you’ve got left. This is actually a somewhat uncommon feature in cordless drills believe it or not. It also has a high performance 330UWO motor, making it capable of tackling any drilling easily.
The only drawback about this drill is that it only comes with a single battery. However, the battery life on it is substantial and it does have a meter for you to determine the remaining power so the real downside to this can be negated by simply paying close attention to your battery life. Paying attention to your battery life will actually help the drill function better as well, as any tool functions best at full battery.
Bosch DDB181-02 18-Volt
We all know how great German engineering is, so it should be no surprise that when you’re looking for the best battery powered drill you’re going to see a German brand. Bosch has a tremendous following as its tools are leading edge, with a quality that make them see frequent use by contractors and trades workers alike. The DDB181-02 is an impressive drill to add to this list and here are just a few of its great features:
- High Torque
- 2 Speed Transmission
You’ll find any drilling to be a breeze with this extremely light drill. Whether you’re drilling for five minutes or drilling all day, your hand will thank you for using something lighter. At the same time, however, you’re not losing any power as the high torque motor can go up to 1,300rpm! With two speed transmission, you can also control this power and apply it where you need it. This combination of power and versatility makes this drill an absolute pleasure to use.
While the drill itself is extremely powerful, the batteries are only 18v. This makes them slightly weaker than the industry standard 20v battery and this drill takes a bit of a hit because of it. However, because of the two-speed transmission, you have a lot of control over how much power you utilize, so with proper power management, you could see the battery life of this thing surpass a 20v battery!
